Local Agenda 21 Youth
Parliament in partnership with Şişli Local Agenda 21 organizes an
international youth summit on 11-12 December 2004 in Istanbul/Turkey.
This summit is organized prior to EU Council Summit in Brussels where a
historical decision is expected to be taken regarding EU pre-accession
negotiations with Turkey. Local Agenda 21 Youth Parliament hosts this
summit in Turkey via convening young people from Turkey and Europe, who
will be constructing the future.

National Coordination Meeting of Local Agenda 21 National
Youth Partliamnet

July 2004
Between 21st and
23rd of July Local Agenda 21 Facilitating Group Meeting was held in
Malatya. After this meeting, the 1st National Coordination Meeting
of Local Agenda 21 National Youth Parliament gathered and a work
plan for the next one year was constituted as the outcome of these

Trabzon
Summer School

Semtember 2004
Local Agenda 21 National Youth
Parliament Summer School was realized in Trabzon between 6th and
12th of September 2004. Besides panels on local governance and
public administration reform, evaluation of implementation of Local
Agenda 21s in Turkey, young people from approximately 80 provinces
of Turkey participated to several trainings during the summer

Establishment of the Local Agenda 21 National Youth Parliament
PREPARATION MEETING TO THE 19TH MAY SUMMIT 23-24 April 2004,
Tarsus
Between the dates, 23-24
April 2004, 110 youth participants from 63 provinces have gathered in
Tarsus for the Preparation Meeting to the Local Agenda 21 National Youth
Parliament Summit that is to take place on 19th May in Ankara, the
capital of Turkey where the establishment of the Parliament would be
declared. Within this preparation meeting, the participants formed the
road map of the LA-21 National Youth Parliament.

The Meeting
of LA-21 Youth Parliament and Relevant Public Institutions for the
Formation of a Coherent Youth Policy in Turkey

LA-21 Youth Parliament
representatives came together with the state officials on the same
platform to discuss the future establishment of a National Youth Council
and the formation of a national youth policy in February, 2004. The LA-21 youth
representatives also had the opportunity to meet with the NGO
representatives of the National Youth Council Initiative. The LA-21
youth representatives criticized the idea that there are two rival
initiatives for the establishment of a National Youth Council currently
in Turkey; stating that;

24; 2003 in Antalya to discuss the Draft Law of Public Administration
and its impact on youth together with the relevant state officials such
as the Prime Ministry Chief Counselor for the Draft Law and the Ministry
of Interior Affairs General Director for Local Administrations.

only got trained on important topics but also had the chance to

The REC’s role in the Healthy Planet Forum and the Ministerial
Conference
Budapest, Hungary will
be the site for the 4th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health:
The Future for Our Children on June 23-25. The event will run in
parallel with the Healthy Planet Forum’s own Civil Society and NGO
Conference.

Southeast Europe Cooperation Process Good
neighborhood process in European countries started under the name of
“stability, security and cooperation” with the proposal of the Turkish
government in June 1996 in Sofia in the assembly of Southeast Europe
countries foreign ministers. Turkey, Greece, Albania, Romania,
Yugoslavia (Serb-Karadağ), Bulgaria, Macedonia were permanent members
whereas Bosnia –Herzegovina was the observer member. During the
presidency of Romania the name of the enterprise has been changed to
“Southeast Europe Cooperation Process” (SEECP).

Euro-Med Seminar on Youth and Migration
10-13 October 2003, TUNISIA
Seminar on Youth and Migration
was realised by El-Taller which is an international non-governmental
organization situated on south and with the participation of young
people from Tunisia, Syria, Palestine,Iraq, Lebanon, Algeria,
Maroccco, Egypt, Netherlands, Italy, France, Greece and Turkey. Elif
Memiş and Fatma Pelin Sarıkahya from Turkey represented Youth
Association for Habitat and Agenda 21.During the seminar,
participants discussed their ideas on youth and migration issues and
these discussions prepared a base for various partnerships between
participant organizations.
